Cancer

I found out recently that a friend of mine who has been battling cancer got bad news. Her cancer has moved to her bones. I don't know a lot about cancer, but to me that doesn't sound good. I have spent the last 2 days thinking about how this disease really doesn't play fair. My friend is a person who I met on Twitter. She is amazing. She is quite possibly the strongest women I know. Her battle has been a long one. I would think by now there isn't a cancer cell that could come within 50 feet of her without blowing up. But it is in her bones. That still doesn't sound good. I am afraid to even look up that on google. I spent all day yesterday with tears for her, her husband, her dog, her friends, and me. I am still tearing up right now. I can't imagine the day when she isn't out there. I know this is selfish, I know her battle is her choice but why can't we have cures for cancer. Cancer is not new, it has been taking lives as long as there have been lives to take. We cured polio, small pox, and other crazy diseases, why not cancer.

My husband lost both his parents to cancer. My great aunt died of cancer, when she was 16. My other great aunt has had a breast removed to cancer. My uncle is fighting prostate cancer right now. My friends daughter was fighting cancer as a little girl. My other friends granddaughter is fighting cancer now. I have known many in the battle when I was driving shuttle bus and taking people from treatment to treatment. I watched people be devastated by this and I have watched people win.

But it is in her bones.

Heres is a few pics from our last trip, some from New Oreleans. There are some from a cemetary and all the graves are above ground. I found that interesting. Then there were some with some left over damage from Hurricane Katrina.

on the road again...

we had a nice day at home and are back rolling. We are going to Texas again and this is one of favorite drives thru Price Canyon and Moab. It was nice to go home and sleep in our bed.. see the dogs.. visit my mom and recharge. I've been reading the Money Makeover and am getting ready to pay off all debt.. I am excited.. we don't have a lot but any is too much. We already have step one done before we started. I hope to be out of debt in a year.. I have to gather up all the dr bills from our stays in the hospital last year. we make pretty good money but need to be a bit more disciplined with our money.

Driving the devils highway

Been running the old hwy 666 which is now hwy 491 from Utah to New Mexico. Before you get to the Devils Highway you go thru Moab, UT. It is a beautiful drive. I do love the drive through back hwys and Navajo reservations and since I've been driving I've watched the Navajo Nation grow and it makes me glad. The first time though you could see the poverty they lived in and now it is building up with a new hospital and new houses going up.. its about time!

Cleanliness in the truck...

Since I drive team, alot of our trips are expedited, meaning we have to run back to back with few stops. We can do this for 5-7 days without really stopping for necessities like showers. I have been experimenting with ways to keep clean without feeling nasty after a day or 2 without a shower. Washing up in the truck is easy, requires no more than some baby wipes, but washing my hair has been a challenge, until now.

I have done the jug of water over a bucket method and it is very messy. Then I tried "dry" shampoo, and all that does it powder your hair and feels worse than before. Then I found No Rinse Shampoo, and let me tell you, I love it. You basically pour it on your scalp and lather up. I then add a bit more for the lather and then towel dry.. when you are done, you are feeling like you just stepped out of the shower, you hair is damp and you can style as you like. I did use the shower cap, also on that site, but I find the bottle shampoo much better for me. But try both, you can microwave warm that cap and boy that feels nice!! Either way you feel like you just stepped out of the shower!!

The no rinse also has a body wash, you mix with water and sponge bath with it but you don't have to rinse, which, in a truck is hard. So the birdbaths in the sleeper are easier with this product as well.

Well, there is one of the main issues in our truck and it smells better in here already, lol.

First, about me...

I am a female truck driver, I drive team with my husband. We drive 48 states. That being said, unlike most drivers I come across, politically, we are rare. We are some of the few out here that are progressive, registered Democrats. We stand behind President Obama, he is making great strides even with the party of NO turning all down. We hope for better things for this country, we think he is doing a great job.

I have 2 grown children, 18 and 20, four dogs and live in Washington State.

I was born in Ohio, moved to Washington in 1980 and have lived there since. I believe that the PNW is more progressive than alot of the states and am shocked to be out here with such closed minds. But I am vocal with what I believe and will continue to be.

This blog is to talk about life on the road as a female and team driver. Challenges we face out here and of course a little politics.
